Family

PLAA/Doa1/Lub1 (IPR033510)

Short name: PLAA/Doa1/Lub1

Overlapping homologous superfamilies

Family relationships

None.

Description

This entry includes PLAA from animals, Doa1 from budding yeasts and Lub1 from fission yeasts. Doa1 and Lub1 are involved in ubiquitin (Ub) homeostasis [PMID: 14993272, PMID: 7615550]. However, Lub1 appears to provide Ub specifically for proteasome-mediated protein degradation, whereas Doa1 recycles Ub from proteosomal degradation pathways into pathways that control chromatin structure and replication [PMID: 16705165]. Human PLAP may have a role in regulating phospholipase A2 activity [PMID: 9931468].
