Family relationships

Calpain small subunit 1 (CAPNS1, also known as CAPN4) is a regulatory subunit of the calpain proteolytic system that regulates a wide spectrum of biological functions, including migration, adhesion, apoptosis, secretion, and autophagy [PMID: 23589330]. CAPNS1 is essential for proper osteoblast activity and bone remodelling in mice [PMID: 18515801]. It also plays an important role in chondrocyte functions in embryonic growth plates [PMID: 23589330].
