The chromatin assembly factor 1 subunit A (CAF-1 subunit A) is a core component of the CAF-1 complex, a complex thought to mediate chromatin assembly in DNA replication and DNA repair. This entry represents the N-terminal of the CAF-1 subunit A that binds to PCNA (proliferating cell nuclear antigen). The PCNA mediates the connection between CAF-1 and the DNA replication fork. The CAF1 complex is essential in human cells for the de novo deposition of histones H3 and H4 at the DNA replication fork [PMID: 12697822, PMID: 21209461].
