This domain represents the Spacer-1 domain from the ADAM-TS family of metalloproteinases [PMID: 11279086].

A cellular disintegrin and metalloproteinase (ADAM) is a family of genes with structural homology to the snake venom metalloproteinases and disintegrins [PMID: 8995297]. There is variation amongst members of the family, however, all have a similar domain organisation comprising a preproregion, a reprolysin-type catalytic domain, a disintegrin-like domain, a thrombospondin type-1 (TS) module, a cysteine-rich domain, a spacer domain without cysteine residues, and a COOH-terminal TS module [PMID: 10464288, PMID: 11279086]. They are involved in embryogenesis and have been implicated in some cancers and inflammatory diseases [PMID: 11279086].
