This domain is a pore-forming domain and is involved in the formation of large ring-shaped pores in rat erythrocyte membranes [[cite:PUB00091171]]. The formation of MACPF/CDC-like pores is probably central to the toxin's hemolytic activity, and cell lysis could explain physiological effects, including edema, increased vascular permeability, and muscle damage.</p>","llm":false,"checked":false,"updated":false}],"wikipedia":null,"literature":{"PUB00091171":{"PMID":26627714,"ISBN":null,"volume":"112","issue":"50","year":2015,"title":"Stonefish toxin defines an ancient branch of the perforin-like superfamily.","URL":null,"raw_pages":"15360-5","medline_journal":"Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A","ISO_journal":"Proc.
