This family This entry represents a novel family of serine proteases (BubE) that function in bacterial ubiquitination-like (Bub) pathways. BubE proteins contain a conserved serine-histidine catalytic dyad that can cleave both peptide and isopeptide bonds. The proteins also contain a conserved C4 zinc finger motif formed by four cysteine residues. BubE appears to negatively regulate Bub activity by cleaving ubiquitin-like protein-target conjugates. The proteins often contain hydrophobic N- or C-terminal extensions that may mediate association with membranes. BubE proteins are found in both Type I and Type II Bub operons, which encode components of bacterial protein conjugation systems that function through unusual oxyester intermediates.</p>","llm":false,"checked":false,"updated":false}],"wikipedia":null,"literature":null,"set_info":null,"overlaps_with":null,"counters":{"subfamilies":0,"domain_architectures":1,"interactions":0,"matches":801,"pathways":0,"proteins":801,"proteomes":743,"sets":0,"structural_models":{"alphafold":450},"structures":0,"taxa":1575},"entry_annotations":{"hmm":0,"logo":0,"alignment:seed":133,"alignment:full":397},"cross_references":{},"is_llm":false,"is_reviewed_llm":false,"is_updated_llm":false,"representative_structure":null}}
