It is encoded as part of an operon that also includes an histidine racemase and an enzyme distantly related to nicotianamine synthase [[cite:PUB00081137]]. Staphylopine is involved in metal acquisition, chelating nickel, cobalt, zinc, copper or iron, depending on the growing conditions. Metal acquisition is vital for bacteria growing in metal-scarce environments, such as inside a host in the case of pathogens.</p>","llm":false,"checked":false,"updated":false}],"wikipedia":null,"literature":{"PUB00081137":{"PMID":27230378,"ISBN":null,"volume":"352","issue":"6289","year":2016,"title":"Biosynthesis of a broad-spectrum nicotianamine-like metallophore in Staphylococcus aureus.","URL":null,"raw_pages":"1105-9","medline_journal":"Science","ISO_journal":"Science","authors":["Ghssein G","Brutesco C","Ouerdane L","Fojcik C","Izaute A","Wang S","Hajjar C","Lobinski R","Lemaire D","Richaud P","Voulhoux R","Espaillat A","Cava F","Pignol D","Borezee-Durant E","Arnoux P."],"DOI_URL":"http://dx.doi.org/10.1126/science.aaf1018"}},"set_info":null,"overlaps_with":null,"counters":{"subfamilies":0,"domain_architectures":1,"interactions":0,"matches":231,"pathways":0,"proteins":231,"proteomes":218,"sets":0,"structural_models":{"alphafold":128},"structures":13,"taxa":387},"entry_annotations":{"hmm":0,"logo":0,"alignment:seed":7,"alignment:full":76},"cross_references":{},"is_llm":false,"is_reviewed_llm":false,"is_updated_llm":false,"representative_structure":{"accession":"6c4m","name":"Yersinopine dehydrogenase (YpODH) - NADP+ bound"}}}
