CDI is mediated by the CdiB-CdiA two-partner secretion system. Each CdiA protein exhibits a distinct growth inhibition activity, which resides in the polymorphic C-terminal region (CdiA-CT). Cells with the CDI sytem also express a CdiI immunity protein that blocks the activity of cognate CdiA-CT, thereby protecting the cell from autoinhibition. In many CDI systems the cdiBAI genes are followed by orphan cdiA-CT/cdiI modules, suggesting that these modules are exchanged between the CDI systems of different bacteria [[cite:PUB00074283]].</p>","llm":false,"checked":false,"updated":false}],"wikipedia":null,"literature":{"PUB00074283":{"PMID":21829394,"ISBN":null,"volume":"7","issue":"8","year":2011,"title":"Identification of functional toxin/immunity genes linked to contact-dependent growth inhibition (CDI) and rearrangement hotspot (Rhs) systems.","URL":null,"raw_pages":"e1002217","medline_journal":"PLoS Genet","ISO_journal":"PLoS Genet.","authors":["Poole SJ","Diner EJ","Aoki SK","Braaten BA","t'Kint de Roodenbeke C","Low DA","Hayes CS."],"DOI_URL":"http://dx.doi.org/10.1371/journal.pgen.1002217"}},"set_info":null,"overlaps_with":null,"counters":{"subfamilies":0,"domain_architectures":1,"interactions":0,"matches":357,"pathways":0,"proteins":357,"proteomes":236,"sets":0,"structural_models":{"alphafold":215},"structures":5,"taxa":552},"entry_annotations":{"hmm":0,"logo":0,"alignment:seed":51,"alignment:full":116},"cross_references":{},"is_llm":false,"is_reviewed_llm":false,"is_updated_llm":false,"representative_structure":{"accession":"2gkp","name":"Protein of Unknown Function NMB0488 from Neisseria meningitidis"}}}
