The crystal structure reveals that the protein binds a Zn2+ ion in a tetrahedral coordination with four Cys residues from two CxxC motifs. CXXC motif containing zinc binding protein was initially identified as an interaction partner for the heavy metal-associated (HMA) domain of CCS (copper chaperone for superoxide dismutase). However, it was shown that only misfolded mutant forms, lacking part of the zinc-binding sites, interact with CCS [[cite:PUB00091677]].</p>","llm":false,"checked":false,"updated":false}],"wikipedia":null,"literature":{"PUB00091677":{"PMID":30260988,"ISBN":null,"volume":"13","issue":"9","year":2018,"title":"Identification of a novel zinc-binding protein, C1orf123, as an interactor with a heavy metal-associated domain.","URL":null,"raw_pages":"e0204355","medline_journal":"PLoS One","ISO_journal":"PLoS ONE","authors":["Furukawa Y","Lim C","Tosha T","Yoshida K","Hagai T","Akiyama S","Watanabe S","Nakagome K","Shiro Y."],"DOI_URL":"https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0204355"}},"set_info":null,"overlaps_with":null,"counters":{"subfamilies":0,"domain_architectures":76,"interactions":0,"matches":4217,"pathways":0,"proteins":4114,"proteomes":3282,"sets":0,"structural_models":{"alphafold":3535},"structures":7,"taxa":8697},"entry_annotations":{"hmm":0,"logo":0,"alignment:seed":129,"alignment:full":3237},"cross_references":{},"is_llm":false,"is_reviewed_llm":false,"is_updated_llm":false,"representative_structure":{"accession":"5zlq","name":"Crystal Structure of C1orf123"}}}
