ENZYME: 2.5.1.149

ID 2.5.1.149
DE Lycopene elongase/hydratase (flavuxanthin-forming).
CA (1) Prenyl diphosphate + all-trans-lycopene + acceptor + H(2)O =
CA nonaflavuxanthin + reduced electron acceptor + diphosphate.
CA (2) Prenyl diphosphate + nonaflavuxanthin + acceptor + H(2)O =
CA flavuxanthin + reduced electron acceptor + diphosphate.
CC -!- The enzyme, characterized from the bacterium Corynebacterium
CC glutamicum, is bifunctional.
CC -!- It catalyzes the elongation of the C(40) carotenoid all-trans-
CC lycopene by attaching an isoprene unit at C-2, as well as the
CC hydroxylation of the new isoprene unit.
CC -!- The enzyme acts at both ends of the substrate, forming the C(50)
CC carotenoid flavuxanthin via the C(45) intermediate nonaflavuxanthin.
CC -!- Cf. EC 2.5.1.150.
