IntEnz Enzyme Nomenclature
EC 2.4.1.220

Names

Accepted name:
indoxyl-UDPG glucosyltransferase
Other name:
indoxyl-UDPG-glucosyltransferase
Systematic name:
UDP-glucose:indoxyl 3-O-β-D-glucosyltransferase

Reaction

Comments:

Also acts to a limited extent on 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-hydroxyindole. After enzymic or chemical hydrolysis, indican forms indoxyl, which, in turn, is converted in the presence of oxygen to the dye indigo.
