This paper containing nomenclatural acts is meant to accompany Part 2, which includes the members of the infraorder <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="infraorder">Grassatores</named-content></named-content> of the superfamilies <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Samooidea</named-content></named-content> and <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Zalmoxoidea</named-content></named-content> plus the <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="infraorder">Grassatores</named-content></named-content> currently not allocated to any family (<italic toggle="yes">i.e.</italic>
<named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="infraorder">Grassatores</named-content></named-content> incertae sedis).</p></sec><sec sec-type="new information"><title>New information</title><p>The following 32 taxonomic changes are proposed here:</p><p>(1-3) The Afrotropical genera <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Hovanoceros</named-content></named-content></italic> Lawrence, 1959, <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Malgaceros</named-content></named-content></italic> Lawrence, 1959 and <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Tetebius</named-content></named-content></italic> Roewer, 1949 (all currently in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Samoidae</named-content></named-content>) are all newly transferred to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Biantidae</named-content></named-content>.</p><p>(4-5) <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Microminua</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">soerenseni</named-content></named-content></italic> Soares &amp; Soares, 1954, from Brazil is newly transferred to <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Tibangara</named-content></named-content></italic> (<named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Gonyleptoidea</named-content></named-content>: <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Cryptogeobiidae</named-content></named-content>), newly combined as <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Tibangara</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">soerenseni</named-content></named-content></italic> new comb., new familial allocation for the species.</p><p>(6-7) The new genus <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Llaguenia</named-content></named-content></italic> Gen. nov is erected for the South American species <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Zamora</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">peruviana</named-content></named-content></italic> Roewer, 1956, newly combined as <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Llaguenia</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">peruviana</named-content></named-content></italic> new comb., and newly placed in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Gonyleptoidea</named-content></named-content>: <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Cranaidae</named-content></named-content> (<named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Prostygninae</named-content></named-content>).</p><p>(8) <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Bebedoura</named-content></named-content></italic> Roewer, 1949, known from a single Brazilian species, is transferred from <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Tricommatinae</named-content></named-content> to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="infraorder">Grassatores</named-content></named-content> incertae sedis.</p><p>(9) <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Microconomma</named-content></named-content></italic> Roewer, 1915, known from a single Cameroonian species, is transferred from <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Samoidae</named-content></named-content> to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="infraorder">Grassatores</named-content></named-content> incertae sedis.</p><p>(10) <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Stygnomimus</named-content></named-content></italic> Roewer, 1927, with two Indomalayan species and hitherto included in the <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Stygnommatidae</named-content></named-content>, is here formally considered <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="infraorder">Grassatores</named-content></named-content> incertae sedis.</p><p>(11) <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Bichito</named-content></named-content></italic> González-Sponga, 1998, known from a single Venezuelan species, originally described in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Phalangodidae</named-content></named-content>: <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Phalangodinae</named-content></named-content>, and currently in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="infraorder">Grassatores</named-content></named-content> incertae sedis is transferred to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Samoidae</named-content></named-content>.</p><p>(12) The Neotropical genus <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Microminua</named-content></named-content></italic> Sørensen, 1932, currently with two species, is newly transferred from <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Kimulidae</named-content></named-content> to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Samoidae</named-content></named-content>.</p><p>(13-14) <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Cornigera</named-content></named-content></italic> González-Sponga, 1987 (currently in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Samoidae</named-content></named-content>), is newly considered a junior subjective synonym of <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Microminua</named-content></named-content></italic>, and its single species is combined under <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Microminua</named-content></named-content></italic> as <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Microminua</named-content>

Part 2: <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="suborder">Laniatores</named-content></named-content> – <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Samooidea</named-content></named-content>, <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Zalmoxoidea</named-content></named-content> and <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="infraorder">Grassatores</named-content></named-content>
<italic toggle="yes">incertae sedis</italic>" (<xref rid="B2183211" ref-type="bibr">Kury et al. 2015</xref>). Herein, reasoning for taxonomic decisions is given associated with nomenclatural acts to clarify new taxonomic changes in ​ the list presented in that work.</p><p>Harvestmen taxonomy, founded in the classic and typological Roewerian system (<italic toggle="yes">e.g.</italic>
<xref rid="B1662458" ref-type="bibr">Roewer 1912</xref>) has been criticized by several authors. Discarding of the hierarchical weighting of the typical Roewerian morphological diagnostic characters and the use of alternative sources of morphological and molecular information and the biogenetic framework allowed the appearance of a new distinct classification system that caused a revolution in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="order">Opiliones</named-content></named-content> systematics.</p><p>We are currently in the middle of this systematic reorganization. Modern approaches are very different to the classical ones, and we now typically have a critical amount of new information about the arrangement of the major <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="order">Opiliones</named-content></named-content> lineages that is highly incongruent with the Roewerian system. But there is a huge impediment – a considerable fraction of harvestmen species are known only from their original and often insufficient descriptions, and their names remain tied to an obsolete taxonomic system. Huge efforts were made by modern opilionologists (<italic toggle="yes">e.g.</italic>
<xref rid="B1662578" ref-type="bibr">Kury 2003</xref>) to utilize the poor information available for an enormous amount of taxa, and to accommodate them into a more natural system. However, this is not enough and many harvestmen still remain as <italic toggle="yes">incertae sedis</italic> in several taxonomical categories.</p><p>For that reason it is not rare for newly written compilations in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="order">Opiliones</named-content></named-content>, such as catalogues, checklists, <italic toggle="yes">etc.</italic>, to typically include several taxonomic and nomenclatural changes (<italic toggle="yes">e.g.</italic>
<xref rid="B1662578" ref-type="bibr">Kury 2003</xref>). With critical reading of the published bibliography (mainly the old works), re-examination of each type specimen, examination of male genital morphology drawings, sequencing of DNA, <italic toggle="yes">etc.</italic> comes important hints to make some of the immeasurable changes needed in this new harvestmen taxonomic system. The current work deals with one of the most challenging and frustrating segments of <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="order">Opiliones</named-content></named-content> systematics,the superfamilies <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Samooidea</named-content></named-content> and <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Zalmoxoidea</named-content></named-content>, which have been extensively worked on in recent years including huge changes in their taxonomy and systematics (<italic toggle="yes">e.g.</italic>
<xref rid="B1662578" ref-type="bibr">Kury 2003</xref>, <xref rid="B2183470" ref-type="bibr">Sharma and Giribet 2011</xref>, <xref rid="B1662518" ref-type="bibr">Sharma et al. 2011a</xref>, <xref rid="B2181807" ref-type="bibr">Pérez-González and Kury 2007b</xref>, <xref rid="B1662528" ref-type="bibr">Sharma et al. 2011b</xref>). Increasing amounts of phylogenetic evidence (<italic toggle="yes">e.g.</italic>
<xref rid="B2183470" ref-type="bibr">Sharma and Giribet 2011</xref>) support both lineages as natural, corroborating their excision from the nonsense Roewerian <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Phalangodidae</named-content></named-content> – one of the most resilient bastions of the ever crumbling Roewerian system. Likewise, the <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Samooidea</named-content></named-content> and <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Zalmoxoidea</named-content></named-content> include the highest number of <italic toggle="yes">incertae sedis</italic> taxa which still often challenge the work of the harvestmen taxonomists today.</p></sec><sec sec-type="Material and methods"><title>Material and methods</title><p>The large collections of our own musems, MNRJ (Museu Nacional/ UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro) and MACN (Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales "Bernardino Rivadavia", Buenos Aires), have been complemented along the years by several visits to major repositories in the world. Re-study of type specimens and search for homologies in genital morphology associated with a cladistic framework allowed us to dismantle Roewer's system. The advent of the internet and wide digitalization of literature allowed access to countless rare works, allowing spelling checks, and solidly anchoring checklists.</p><p>Optical photograph images were taken along the years with a variety of hardware. Most recent photos have been integrated with the stacker software CombineZP Suite (<xref rid="B2183634" ref-type="bibr">Hadley 2009</xref>) based on preliminary images at different focal planes.</p><p>Male genitalia preparation follows <xref rid="B2183691" ref-type="bibr">Acosta et al. (2007)</xref>, and were temporarily mounted in glycerol. Penis were drawn using a camera lucida attached to different kinds of compound microscopes. Genitalia ink drawings were digitalized and vectorized using Corel Draw X7. <xref rid="B1662361" ref-type="bibr">Lawrence (1959)</xref> described the monotypic <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Hovanoceros</named-content></named-content></italic> from Madagascar, including in it in the <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Phalangodidae</named-content></named-content>: <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Samoinae</named-content></named-content>, along with <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Malgaceros</named-content></named-content></italic> and <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Anaceros</named-content></named-content></italic>. <xref rid="B1662381" ref-type="bibr">Staręga (1992)</xref> included only <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Anaceros</named-content></named-content></italic> in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Biantidae</named-content></named-content> (probably because of the lack of a common ocularium), leaving the other two in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Samoidae</named-content></named-content>. There are a number of undescribed species currently under study.</p><p><bold>Rationale for the new familial allocation.</bold> External features include a huge protuberant ocularium and an unusual scutal armature, but they do not point conclusively to any specific family (See Fig. <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662317">1</xref>. Male genitalia presents an eversible stylus, flanked by a pair of rigid laminar conductors. The capsula externa consists of a bifid pair of soft titillators, with multiple digitiform apical lobules. This pattern doesn't present any known condition in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Samoidae</named-content></named-content> and perfectly matches that of <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Biantidae</named-content></named-content> (Fig. <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662319">2</xref>, and is herein transferred into the family <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Biantidae</named-content></named-content>.</p><p>

Mesotergum divided into four areas. Area I divided into left and right halves. Scutum and free tergites smooth and unarmed. Ocularium extremely narrow. Scutal groove U-shaped, notably elongate. Cheliceral hand of male swollen. Pedipalpal femur cylindrical, unarmed ventrally. Coxa IV outline widely surpasses dorsal scutum in dorsal view, and parallel to main body axis. <named-content content-type="species">peruviana</named-content></named-content></italic> has been examined, and although it has an apparent metasarcid facies (Fig. <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662325">5</xref>), male genitalia strongly resembles the ones depicted for <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Prostygninae</named-content></named-content> in <xref rid="B1662478" ref-type="bibr">Kury (2012)</xref> (Compare Fig. <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662327">6</xref>). <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Zamora</named-content></named-content></italic> is no longer considered to be a cranaid (see <xref rid="B1662488" ref-type="bibr">Kury and Villarreal M. 2015</xref>), and <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">L.</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">peruviana</named-content></named-content></italic> does not have any special similarity to grant its permanence in that genus. Revision is increasingly showing that many genera originally described in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Phalangodidae</named-content></named-content>: <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Phalangodinae</named-content></named-content> the mid-20th century should be allocated elsewhere (<italic toggle="yes">e.g.</italic>
<xref rid="B1662371" ref-type="bibr">Staręga 1989</xref>), diminishing this family to a natural Holarctic natural core. <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Bebedoura</named-content></named-content></italic> was originally included in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Phalangodidae</named-content></named-content>: <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Tricommatinae</named-content></named-content>. A recent cladistic analysis of this group (<xref rid="B1662447" ref-type="bibr">Kury 2014</xref>) detected that <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Tricommatinae</named-content></named-content> as then recognised consisted of two divergent groups (<named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Gonyleptidae</named-content></named-content>: <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Tricommatinae</named-content></named-content> versus <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Cryptogeobiidae</named-content></named-content>) plus some extraneous genera of gonyleptids of uncertain placement, such as <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Bebedoura</named-content></named-content></italic>. However, Kury was inconsistent because he listed <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Bebedoura</named-content></named-content></italic> among the <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Gonyleptidae</named-content></named-content>
<italic toggle="yes">incertae sedis</italic>, and at the same time commented "probably <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Escadabiidae</named-content></named-content>", which are mutually excluve placements.</p><p><bold>Rationale for the removal from <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Tricommatinae</named-content></named-content>.</bold> The female holotype of <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Bebedoura</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">rugosa</named-content></named-content></italic> has been studied by ABK (see Figs <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662329">7</xref>, <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662331">8</xref>), but it failed to provide any evidence for a sure familial placement. The ocularium is seamlessly prolonged into a huge forward bent cone with a secondary branch found only in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Podoctidae</named-content></named-content>. Leg IV vaguely resembles some <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Zalmoxidae</named-content></named-content> because of its curved femur armed with a retrodistal apophysis (females usually do not possess those in many families). The <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Cryptogeobiidae</named-content></named-content> which possess similar ocularia (<italic toggle="yes">e.g., Pseudopachylus</italic>, <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Tibangara</named-content></named-content></italic>) do not share any other special similarity with <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Bebedoura</named-content></named-content></italic>. There are some <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Gonyleptidae</named-content></named-content> (<named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Pachylinae</named-content></named-content>) with females also known to bearmed on leg IV, while a divided area I occurs in many <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Gonyleptoidea</named-content></named-content>. The original description is too superficial to allow any judgement, but the species in question, as illustrated, doesn't fit the typical <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Samoidae</named-content></named-content> habitus as defined by <xref rid="B2181807" ref-type="bibr">Pérez-González and Kury (2007b)</xref>. This genital morphology matches the penial groundplan described for <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Samoidae</named-content></named-content> by <xref rid="B2181807" ref-type="bibr">Pérez-González and Kury (2007b)</xref>. <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Heteroscotolemon</named-content></named-content></italic> was originally included in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Phalangodinae</named-content></named-content>, then transferred to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="infraorder">Grassatores</named-content></named-content>
<italic toggle="yes">incertae sedis</italic> by Kury (2003).</p><p><bold>Rationale for the new placement.</bold> Evidence for the new placement as a large zalmoxid comes from the backward pointed scutal grooves, bimerous distitarsus I, strongly armed pedipalpal trochanter and femur. All other <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="suborder">Laniatores</named-content></named-content> recorded from French Guyana are either <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Gonyleptoidea</named-content></named-content>, which typically have distitarsus I trimerous, or <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Stenostygninae</named-content></named-content>, which do not have a common ocularium. <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Heteroscotolemon</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">australis</named-content></named-content></italic> is very different from <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Parascotolemon</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">ornatum</named-content></named-content></italic> Roewer, 1912, a typical local zalmoxid (See Figs <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662343">14</xref>, <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662345">15</xref>). Later he added a fourth species from Peru (<italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Zalmoxista</named-content>

Another zalmoxid genus which has the same tarsal counts and the same conformation of scutal areas is <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Minuides</named-content></named-content></italic>, which currently includes several Neotropical species of doubtful monophyly. <xref rid="B1662498" ref-type="bibr">Roewer 1949c</xref>: 19, figs 17a-c.</p><p><bold>Type data.</bold> ♂ holotype, 1 ♂ 1 ♀ paratypes (SMF RII 3138/79, not examined), from INDONESIA, Jawa Timur, Bawean Island.</p><p><bold>Historical systematic background.</bold> This monotypic genus was originally in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Phalangodinae</named-content></named-content> and represents a neglected taxon. <xref rid="B1662665" ref-type="bibr">Goodnight and Goodnight (1957)</xref> synonymized a great number of genera with <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Zalmoxis</named-content></named-content></italic>, but overlooked <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Neobabrius</named-content></named-content></italic>. <xref rid="B1662371" ref-type="bibr">Staręga (1989)</xref> when resurrecting <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Zalmoxidae</named-content></named-content>, gave a list of <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Phalangodinae</named-content></named-content> of obscure systematic position, but <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Neobabrius</named-content></named-content></italic> was again not included. It was neither mentioned in <xref rid="B1662518" ref-type="bibr">Sharma et al. (2011a)</xref>.</p><p><bold>Rationale for the new placement.</bold> Roewer's description of <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Neobabrius</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">parvulus</named-content></named-content></italic> (Fig. <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662347">16</xref>) allows us to recognize a body structure extremely similar to <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Zalmoxis</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">heynemani</named-content></named-content></italic> Suzuki, 1977 (Fig. <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662349">17</xref>), and as a typical zalmoxid due the genitalic features, Fig. <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662349">17</xref> outline of dorsal scutum, shapes of areas and ocularium, proportion of coxae and stigmatic areas, spination of pedipalps, and metatarsus IV incrassate. Therefore <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Neobabrius</named-content></named-content></italic> is here transferred to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Zalmoxidae</named-content></named-content>. Old World <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Zalmoxidae</named-content></named-content> are currently included in only one genus <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Zalmoxis</named-content></named-content></italic>, but we do not wish to propose any additional changes yet, leaving the Indonesian <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Neobabrius</named-content></named-content></italic> as a separate valid genus of <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Zalmoxidae</named-content></named-content> for now.</p><p>

Roraima, 6900 feet.”</p><p><bold>Historical systematic background.</bold> This species from the border of Brazil and Venezuela has originally been assigned to <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Crosbyella</named-content></named-content></italic> (<named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Phalangodinae</named-content></named-content>) and then <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Pellobunus</named-content></named-content></italic> (<named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Samoidae</named-content></named-content>). <xref rid="B1662578" ref-type="bibr">Kury (2003)</xref> recognized it as a zalmoxid, but refrained from indicating a particular genus. There are a great number of described Venezuelan species of <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Zalmoxidae</named-content></named-content>, mostly placed in monotypic genera of no meaning.</p><p><bold>Rationale for the placement.</bold> Examining two pictures of the female holotype of <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">C.</named-content>
<named-content content-type="species">roraima</named-content></named-content></italic> (in AMNH, photos courtesy of R. Pinto-da-Rocha), suggests placement in the genus <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Soledadiella</named-content></named-content></italic>: Ocularium not greatly developed and situated far from margin of carapace; abdominal scutum much larger than carapace, widening posteriorly, with convex sides without constriction, its posterior border straight; scutal area I slightly longer than each of the others; scutal grooves gently curved, pointing backwards; scutal areas and free tergites densely covered by coarse rounded granules, while carapace is smooth. (See Figs <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662351">18</xref>, <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662353">19</xref>). The tarsal counts of <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Soledadiella</named-content>

<named-content content-type="species">tristis</named-content></named-content></italic> Thorell, 1891, by original designation]. <bold>NEW SYNONYMY</bold></p><p><bold>Historical systematic background.</bold>​ Roewer (<xref rid="B1662498" ref-type="bibr">Roewer 1949c</xref>, <xref rid="B1662391" ref-type="bibr">Roewer 1949a</xref>) founded innumerous Palaeotropic genera close to <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Zalmoxis</named-content></named-content></italic> based on minimal variations of scutal armature and tarsal segmentation.</p><p><bold>Fundamentation of the synonymy.</bold> All of those but the monotypic <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Zalmoxissus</named-content></named-content></italic> were synonymized under <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Zalmoxis</named-content></named-content></italic> by <xref rid="B1662518" ref-type="bibr">Sharma et al. (2011a)</xref>, or <xref rid="B1662645" ref-type="bibr">Sharma (2012)</xref>. We believe it was an oversight (especially because the name was published in a short, obscure paper), as <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Zalmoxissus</named-content>

Syn. nov.</p><p><bold>Historical systematic background.</bold> The monotypic genus <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Phalangodella</named-content></named-content></italic> was originally placed in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Phalangodidae</named-content></named-content>
<named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Tricommatinae</named-content></named-content>. It was transferred to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="infraorder">Grassatores</named-content></named-content>
<italic toggle="yes">incertae sedis</italic> by <xref rid="B1662578" ref-type="bibr">Kury (2003)</xref>. A number of species have been subsequently described under <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Phalangodella</named-content></named-content></italic>, but they are all currently included in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Cryptogeobiidae</named-content></named-content> (<xref rid="B1662447" ref-type="bibr">Kury 2014</xref>). <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Exlineia</named-content></named-content></italic> Mello-Leitão, 1942 and <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Cochirapha</named-content></named-content></italic> Roewer, 1949c were originally placed in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Phalangodidae</named-content></named-content>: <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="subfamily">Phalangodinae</named-content></named-content>. <italic toggle="yes">incertae sedis</italic> by <xref rid="B1662578" ref-type="bibr">Kury (2003)</xref>.</p><p><bold>Rationale for the placement.</bold> The male genitalia of <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Phalangodella</named-content></named-content></italic> sp. has a jackknife structure exclusive to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Zalmoxoidea</named-content></named-content> with a foldable capsula externa (stragulum). The presence of a rudimentary pergula and rutrum justifies its inclusion in <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="superfamily">Zalmoxoidea</named-content></named-content>, closest to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Zalmoxidae</named-content></named-content> and <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Icaleptidae</named-content></named-content>, although it is not a perfect match with either (Figs <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662355">20</xref>, <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662357">21</xref>). The five genera here included in synonymy all share the same body plan (judging by the information available in the literature), and only have been separated in the past due to the oversplitting nature of the Roewerian system. Fig. <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662359">22</xref> The extremely narrow marginal ocularium is easily recognizable (<italic toggle="yes">e.g.</italic> Fig. <xref ref-type="fig" rid="F1662359">22</xref>), even in the sketch drawings of the previous literature. The revised genus <italic toggle="yes"><named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="genus">Phalangodella</named-content></named-content></italic> is here transferred to <named-content content-type="taxon-name"><named-content content-type="family">Zalmoxidae</named-content></named-content>.</p><p>

Carapace elongate, with ocularium very narrow, marginal as a blunt protuberance. Mesotergum divided into 4 areas by substraight grooves, last groove curved backwards. Both male and female possess femur IV thickened, curved and with distal prolateral spine and tibia IV moderately incrassate. Penis with short scattered macrosetae; rudimentary proto-pergula (projected distal ring) and proto-rutrum (thick mushroom-shaped apical process). Capsula externa jackknife-like unfolding by means of a long stragulum, divided into left and right halves. Capsula interna without lateral sclerites, and with apical expansion as a parastyllar collar.
