Half of the world population especially those FT inhabiting highly populated areas of the humid tropics and FT subtropics, rely on rice as their primary source of FT carbohydrate. Monocotyledonous rice is a diploid plant FT (2n=24) with a haploid genome equivalent of 431 Mbp FT (Arumuganathan and Earle, 1991). The relatively small FT genome of rice, three times larger than that of FT Arabidopsis, makes it suitable for genomic studies. In FT order to facilitate positional cloning, physical mapping FT and genome sequencing of rice, we have constructed a BAC FT library from Oryza sativa, Nipponbare variety. The library FT contains 36,864 clones with an average insert size of 128.5 FT Kb providing 10.9 haploid genome equivalents. The deep FT coverage allows the isolation a particular sequence with a FT probability of 99.9 %. Two high density filters, each FT containing 18,432 clones (doubly spotted), represent the FT whole library for colony screening."
