Three microliters of mini-shell samples were applied to glow-discharged Quantifoil grids (R2/1) and blotted with filter paper for 3 seconds before plunge freezing with liquid nitrogen-cooled ethane. The temperature was set to 20 ℃ and humidity at 100% during plunge freezing. The micrographs were taken using Krios microscope equipped with a Gatan K3 director electron camera and BioQuantum energy filter (slit width 20 eV). Total exposure dose is 40 electrons/angstrom2, fractionated into 50 frames in tif format.
