Alfonso Valencia received his
PhD in Biochemistry at the Autonoma Univeristy of Madrid.
He continued his academic research completing posdoctoral research
at the American Red Cross (Bethesda) and EMBL-Heidelberg.
He has been developing computational methods to study molecular
evolution and function.
His scientific activity includes the analyses and comparison
of genomes, prediction of protein structure and function, analyses
of protein interactions and the extarction of information from
scientific text.
Currently he is a research professor in the National Center
for Biotecnology (CNB), the group leader at the Protein Design
Group, the Director of the National Institute for Bioinformatics,
and senior Scientist at the Centre for Astrobiology (CAB-INTA-CSIC).
Dr. Valencia is a founder member of the boards of directors
of the ICSB (Int.Society for computational biology),part of
the steering group for the European Group for Computational
Biology (ECCB) and coordinator of the spanish network for bioinformatics. |
