ChEBI Name antimony trichloride
Definition An inorganic chloride salt with formula SbCl3. It is used as a reagent for detecting vitamin A and related carotenoids, reacting with the carotenoid to form a blue complex that can be measured by colorimetry (the Carr-Price test). Solutions of antimony trichloride were formerly used for dissolving and removing horn stubs from calves and goats.

Roles Classification
Chemical Role(s): Lewis acid
A molecular entity that is an electron-pair acceptor and therefore able to form a covalent bond with an electron-pair donor (Lewis base), thereby producing a Lewis adduct.
Biological Role(s): apoptosis inducer
Any substance that induces the process of apoptosis (programmed cell death) in multi-celled organisms.
Application(s): colorimetric reagent
A reagent used in the determination of the concentration of a coloured chemical element or chemical compound in solution.
