ChEBI Name ergoloid mesylate
ChEBI ID CHEBI:34706
Definition A mixture of hydrogenated ergot alkaloids consisting of the methanesulfonic acid salts of dihydroergocornine (R = CHMe2), dihydroergocristine (R = CH2Ph), and α- and β-dihydroergocryptine (R = CH2CHMe2 and CH(Me)Et, respectively). It is used for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate dementia in the elderly, although its value is not established.

Roles Classification
Biological Role(s): alpha-adrenergic antagonist
An agent that binds to but does not activate alpha-adrenergic receptors thereby blocking the actions of endogenous or exogenous alpha-adrenergic agonists. alpha-Adrenergic antagonists are used in the treatment of hypertension, vasospasm, peripheral vascular disease, shock, and pheochromocytoma.
sympatholytic agent
Any compound which inhibits the postganglionic functioning of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS).
Application(s): alpha-adrenergic antagonist

vasodilator agent
A drug used to cause dilation of the blood vessels.
sympatholytic agent
Any compound which inhibits the postganglionic functioning of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS).
nootropic agent
Any compound that improves mental functions such as cognition, memory, intelligence, motivation, attention, and concentration.
