Biography

Manuel joined the Ensembl Genomes team in March 2018. His primary responsibility is to deliver relevant fungal, protist and bacterial data through the Ensembl platform. He is involved in training and dissemination, and the development of high-throughout pipelines. He obtained his MSc in Bioinformatics from the Universities of Leiden and Delft in the Netherlands in 2017, with a thesis focused on inferring chromosome copy numbers in aneuploid organisms. He also holds a BSc in Computer Sciences and an MA in Communication from the Louvain-La-Neuve University in Belgium.

His early career interests included cultural affairs, international cooperation and human rights. In this context, he spent four years living and working in Mexico, and two years in Kinshasa RDCongo.

Manuel is actively engaged with reforestation projects and indigenous communities' rights, and he is particularly interested in applying science to tackle environmental and ecological problems.
