Summary

  • Diversity should play a central role in the world of science and technology
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Science and Health (EDIS) aims to build a coordinated movement to advance equality and diversity in the sector
  • EMBL-EBI has joined EDIS as a coalition member

30 January, Cambridge – EMBL’s European Bioinformatics Institute is one of the organisations to recently join the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Science (EDIS) initiative.

EDIS aims to build a powerful and coordinated movement to advance diversity in science and health and improve access to a career in these fields.

"Diversity should play a central role in the world of science and technology,” says Rolf Apweiler, EMBL-EBI Director. “As a European intergovernmental organisation that sits at the junction of science and engineering, EMBL-EBI is committed to advancing equality, diversity and inclusion in the fields of bioinformatics, genomics and the life sciences. We hope to collaborate with organisations that are leading in this field, and develop best practices to encourage people from all backgrounds to consider and pursue a career in the life sciences."
