XX CC The black beetle virus (BBV) genome consists of two CC messenger-active RNA molecules, RNA1 and RNA2, encapsulated into a CC single virion. RNA1 serves as the genome and the messenger for CC protein A (involved in viral RNA replication). RNA1 is capped by CC m7Gppp at its 5' terminus. A subgenomic RNA species, RNA3, not CC present in the virion is found in infected cells. RNA3 is the CC messenger for protein B (involved in the reguation of translation CC of protein A). Two reading frames have been identified within RNA3, CC B1 and B2. Which cistron, or if both correspond to protein B is not CC yet clear [1]. RNA1 can replicate independently of RNA2 and its CC gene product protein alpha at a level higher than when RNA2 or CC protein alpha is present. RNA2 inhibits the production of RNA3.
