The Bioinformatics Roadshow

EBI Roadshow - Hosting a SLING Roadshow

Can I host a Roadshow?

Your institute is eligible to host a SLING roadshow if it meets all the criteria listed below. If your institute is NOT eligible, we may still be able to support your bioinformatics training needs. Please see the "Help for hosts not eligible under SLING" webpage.

Eligibility criteria for hosting a roadshow:
  1. Your institute has not previously hosted a FELICS or SLING roadshow. If you are not sure whether your institute has hosted a roadshow before, take a look at our map.
  2. It is in one of the 27 EU Member states or one of its Associated countries: Switzerland, Israel, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Turkey, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Please note that EU candidate countries are NOT eligible.
  3. It is not currently a heavy user of Europe's core data resources but has a strong need to train its researchers to use them.
  4. It has access to appropriate IT training facilities and can promote the roadshow to other institutes in the same country, as well as within its own institute.
These are general criteria and we review each request individually based on the merit of the case. If you are interested in hosting a SLING roadshow please review the SLING Roadshow guidelines and contact us.

Securing Wider Participation

If you are hosting a SLING-funded roadshow, we ask you to reserve a minimum of three places for trainees travelling from elsewhere. We ask you to do this for the benefit of trainees who do not have the facilities for a roadshow in their home organisation. We need your help to reach these trainees: please promote your roadshow through your country's existing bioinformatics networks, or through your personal contacts, to ensure that SLING can provide bioinformatics user training to trainees who would otherwise be unable to benefit from it.

You may also wish to consider co-hosting with another local organisation, including local pharmaceutical, agricultural or biotechnology companies. The promotional activities listed on our promotions page should be used at each of the participating organisations; these would need to be closely coordinated if two or more host organisations are involved. In this case, it is beneficial to have a contact in each organisation with responsibility for roadshow promotion.
