The starting point for a Reactome project is the recruitment of an expert in a particular area of biology (Figure 10). These expert authors are asked to describe their area of expertise using diagrams, with detailed references. A Reactome curator then works with the author to use this information, converting it into a form that fits the Reactome data model. When the module is complete, it is peer-reviewed by another expert in the field. If approved, the module is scheduled for release. Reactome updates are released on a quarterly basis.
