Protein to Proteomes
This course aims to navigate you through the process of extracting information on either a single protein of interest, an experimentally derived list of proteins or an entire proteome from the EBI’s public domain data resources.
You will be introduced to the annotation stored within the main protein sequence databases and shown the tools which will allow you to retrieve information from them about proteins or a proteome in which you are interested, in a biologically meaningfully context.
From a series of lectures and hands-on sessions using the actual resources and tools, you will gain, not only insights into how to use the resources, but also when and why to use them and how to search for certain types of information in different databases.
Topics include
- Protein sequences databases - Uniprot
- Protein classification databases - InterPro
- Ontologies: classifying and annotating your data - GO, OLS and PICR
- Sequence searching tools @ EBI
- Dealing with Complete Proteomes: Integr8 and Genome Reviews
- Protein Interactions - Intact

This course is especially designed to give biologists (including laboratory and clinical staff as well as specialists in related fields) expert tuition that will help them to make the most of the EBI's data resources to gain information on protein and proteomes.
The training is free, however we need to charge participants an administration fee of £25 per day.
