Overview

This Summer School is aimed at early-stage researchers with little or no experience in computational biology. This course will provide PhD students, postdocs and clinician-scientists with practical training in bioinformatics in the context of the latest biomedical and biological research. This course also aims to serve as a forum for the interchange of ideas and expertise between database providers and their users. This Summer School will involve hands-on training in using the data resources, therefore we are limiting the number of participants to 35.

The programme will provide:
• A broad introduction to bioinformatics data resources (including, but not limited to, EBI core resources) through lecture- and practical-based sessions.
• An understanding of when, why and how to use public data resources for molecular biology.
• Practical experience of using the databases, using a range of widely applicable case studies.

Registration requires submission of an application form which must be completed and attached, in the 'Abstract Submision' section during the online registration.

Applicants should be early stage researchers.

The supervisor section MUST be completed when the application form is submitted.

Fellowships
There are a limited number of Travel Grants from the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds, Foundation for Basic Research in Medicine available for this course. Please indicate your interest for this grant by e-mailing l.hubbard@hinxton.wellcome.ac.uk.

The short list of applicants will be selected by the scientific organiser during course selection process, at which point you will be contacted and requested to complete a standard form and submit the usual documentation.

The candidates for these fellowships will be selected by the scientific organiser during the application review. The foundation will award the grants to applicants pursuing an experimental project in basic biomedical research and submitting an interesting abstract.

The applicants should belong to one of the following groups of junior scientists:

• PhD students or medical students pursuing an experimental doctoral thesis who are not older than 30 years of age;

• Postdocs who are pursuing a particular research project who are not older than 32 years of age

Please note that these fellowships cover all worldwide travel (including transfers) and full registration fees (including accommodation)
