Interacts with and activates LexA leading to autocatalytic cleavage of LexA, which derepresses the SOS regulon and activates DNA repair. Interacts with the C-terminus of RecB, facilitating loading of RecA onto ssDNA at chi sites. Interaction is decreased by ATP.
