Comments: Cutin, a polymeric structural component of plant cuticles, is an hydroxy fatty acid polymer, usually C(16) or C(18) and that contains one to three hydroxyl groups. The enzyme from several fungal sources also hydrolyzes the p-nitrophenyl esters of hexadecanoic acid. It is however inactive toward several esters that are substrates for non-specific esterases.
