Stepwise Description of the Reaction

Step 1Superoxide donates a single electron to the Cu(II) ion, which causes the dioxygen product to dissociate and the negatively charged His63, which is no longer stabilised by the Cu(I) ion, to deprotonate a water molecule.
Step 2Cu(I) donates a single electron to a second superoxide molecule, which causes it to deprotonate His63 and a bulk solvent water, through a proton relay chain made up out of water molecules.
