The enzyme catalyzes the cleavage of L-fuculose-1-phosphate to dihydroxyacetone phosphate and L-lactaldehyde. Aldolases have been subdivided into two classes (class I and class II). This enzyme belong to class II and it uses a catalytic metal ion (PMID8676381).
