Literature Report

IntroductionSarcosine oxidase catalyses the oxidation of sarcosine to form glycine and formaldehyde. Sarcosine can be used as a carbon source by certain bacteria capable of expressing sarcosine oxidase.
Sarcosine oxidase is part of a family of enzymes which contain flavin and catalyse the oxidation of various secondary and tertiary amino acids.
MechansimTwo mechanisms are proposed [1] involving the FAD cofactor which is bound by cysteine 315, and histidine 269 which is proposed to act as a general base.
