exponential time constant### Definition

Time that it takes for an exponential decay to reach 1/e (about 37%) of the original value. This characterises the frequency response of a first-order, linear time-invariant system. This is also the average lifetime of an element in the decaying set. It is the inverse of the exponential decay constant.
