What to deposit: EMDB stores both your maps as well as
"metadata", i.e. textual information about your experiment. This
includes title and authors of the associated publication,
informations about the proteins and other structures visible in the
map, experimental details about the grid preparation, and details
about image acquisition and processing. While the metadata will be
made available as quickly as possible after curation, You can
choose whether your map should be published immediately, or be held
until publication of for a period of one or two years.
Deposition: Deposit your map into the EMDB using the EmDep deposition system.
This is a web-based system that will take the details of your deposition using
a series of web forms and allow you to upload your map file.
When you start a deposition, EmDep will assign your deposition a
deposition number and ask you to enter a password. You can
revisit and change your deposition any time using this deposition
number and password until you submit it.
Submission: On the last of the EmDep web forms, you can submit
your deposition to the curation team. Once you press the "Submit"
button, EmDep will assign your deposition an accession number,
under which this map will be available in the database. This is the
number you should quote in your publication.
If you do not press "Submit" on the last page, your deposition will
not be processed.
Curation: After you have submitted your deposition, a curator
will look at it. During this time, you cannot make any changes to
it. After a few days, you will receive an email message from the
curation team that might ask you for more information.
Header release: Once the curator is satisfied with the entry,
you will receive a message asking you to review the entry by
logging back into EmDep using the original submission number and
password. You MUST respond to this message. Once your positive
reply is received, the textual information in the entry will be
queued for release (see below for what happens to the map) and
become publicly accessible. If you do not wish to proceed with the
publication of the entry in EMDB, this is your last opportunity.
Entries processed during a week will be accessible from Wednesday
morning the following week.
Map release: Depending on what you have selected in
"Instructions to EMDB" on the EmDep web forms, the map associated
with your entry wille either be released immediately with the header,
held until publication, or held for a embargo period of either one
or two years from the deposition date.
If your map is held until publication, please contact us as soon as the paper
is published, and we will release the entry. If we do not hear from you, we
will release the entry after one year.
If you have embargoed your map, you will receive a message from us
informing you about the release of the map when the embargo ends.
Corrections and retractions: If you need to correct or retract
a map, please contact us by email. We
will mark such entries as obsoleted and remove them from the search
system. Please note that the header information, once released,
will always be available on the FTP site under the
"obsolete_entries" directory.
