About the Electron Microscopy Data Bank
The Electron Microscopy Data Bank (EMDB) contains experimentally
determined three-dimensional maps and associated experimental data and
files. The EMDB was established in 2002 at the PDBe, European
Bioinformatics Institute (EBI).
The requirements for a cryoEM map archive led to the implementation of
a Web-based deposition system, EmDep, for macro-molecular maps
determined by electron microscopy, which facilitates deposition of
maps and associated experimental data for inclusion in the EMDB. A
search tool (EMsearch) and Atlas pages for each entry provide easy
access to the data. The EMDB ftp site has a structures
sub-directory containing details of experimental data from each
deposition, ordered by accession code. Maps, images and other data
files including XML files can be downloaded from the FTP area.
The RCSB also acts as a deposition, data processing and distribution
centre for EMDB data.
The NCMI is a collaborative partner in providing services and tools
concerning the EMDB.
