Standard Origins and Orientations

3DEM Image Conventions

Icosahedral, Dodecahedral Symmetry

Standard orientation:  Twofold axes on x,y,z axes.  With the positive z-axis pointing at the viewer, the front-most 5-fold vertices are in yz plane, and the front-most 3-fold axes are in the xz plane.

Standard origin:  intersection of symmetry axis

Standard  Orientation (standard display orientation) Standard Orientation (arbitrary display orientation)
Icosahedron An icosahedron showing standard orientation and standard display orientation

Dodecahedron A dodecahedron showing standard orientation and standard display orientation A dodecahedron showing standard orientation, arbitrary display orientation
