The structure was published by Huang, C.C., Lesburg, C.A., Kiefer, L.L., Fierke, C.A., and Christianson, D.W., in 1996 in a paper entitled "Reversal of the hydrogen bond to zinc ligand histidine-119 dramatically diminishes catalysis and enhances metal equilibration kinetics in carbonic anhydrase II." (abstract).

This crystal structure was determined using X-ray diffraction at a resolution of 2.5 Å and deposited in 1996.
