The structure was published by Richard, V., Dodson, G.G., and Mauguen, Y., in 1993 in a paper entitled "Human deoxyhaemoglobin-2,3-diphosphoglycerate complex low-salt structure at 2.5 A resolution." (abstract).

This crystal structure was determined using X-ray diffraction at a resolution of 2.5 Å and deposited in 1999.
