KIR Nomenclature
During discussion at the WHO Nomenclature Committee for Factors
of the HLA System meeting in Victoria, Canada in May 2002, it was
decided to form a sub-committee to co-ordinate the naming of alleles
of the genes encoding the Killer-cell Immunoglobulin-like Receptors
(KIR) (1). Details of the decisions made by the KIR Nomenclature
Committee for KIR gene, allele, haplotype and genotype nomenclature
are given under the following sections below. The full report of
their discussions is also available (2).
