Caspase-2 (IPR035702)

Short name: Caspase_2

Overlapping homologous superfamilies

Family relationships

This entry includes the cysteine endopeptidase caspase-2 (MEROPS identifier C14.006), one of the caspases in the cascade that leads to apoptosis. Many cytoplasmic proteins have been identified as substrates for caspase-2 [PMID: 27006500]. One of these proteins is Bid, which is inactivated by caspase-2 and the serine endopeptidase granzyme B, and which ultimately leads to the release of cytochrome C from the mitochondrion and activation of the executor caspases by caspase-9 [PMID: 11832478].
