This SCP-like extracellular protein domain is found in the Pry1-like subfamily restricted to fungi [PMID: 23027975]. Pry1 and Pry2 are sterol-binding proteins involved in the export of acetylated sterols [PMID: 23027975]. Pry1 is a yeast protein that is up-regulated in core ESCRT mutants [PMID: 15879523]. This Pry1-like group also contains fruiting body proteins SC7/14 from Schizophyllum commune [PMID: 8245835].
The SCP domain is also known as CAP domain [PMID: 18824526]. The wider family of SCP containing proteins includes plant pathogenesis-related protein 1 (PR-1), CRISPs, mammalian cysteine-rich secretory proteins, which combine SCP with a C-terminal cysteine rich domain, and allergen 5 from vespid venom. It has been proposed that SCP domains may function as endopeptidases.
