Description

Lacritin is a tear glycoprotein that induces tear secretion [PMID: 21087963, PMID: 25034600] and promotes epithelial homeostasis [PMID: 23640897]. Lacritin has anti-microbial, cytoprotective and wound-healing properties [PMID: 24942736, PMID: 26670139]. It is down-regulated in conditions such as dry eye [PMID: 22736608], keratitis [PMID: 23308132], and other eye pathologies. Lacritin is highly expressed in human lacrimal gland and moderately in major and minor salivary glands [PMID: 11419941].
