Major centromere autoantigen B (CENP-B) is an inner kinetochore protein that binds to a specific centromere sequence, the 17 bp CENP-B box, which appears in every other alpha-satellite repeat (171 bp) in human centromeres and in pericentromeric sequences. CENP-B contains an N-terminal DNA-binding domain and a C-terminal dimerisation domain [PMID: 18072184]. The exact role of CENP-B at centromeres remains unknown [PMID: 22080934].
