Cellular retinol-binding protein III (CRBP-III), also known as retinol-binding protein 5, has a unique H residue in the retinoid-binding site and a distinctive tissue distribution when compared to CRBP-I and CRBP-II [PMID: 11274389, PMID: 18840764]. Human CRBP-III may have a prominent role as an intracellular mediator of retinol metabolism in kidney and liver [PMID: 11274389].
