Family relationships

Gastrotropin, also known as fatty acid-binding protein 6 (FABP6) or ileal bile acid binding protein (IBABP), is an ileal protein that plays a key role in cellular trafficking and metabolic regulation of bile salts. It is able to bind to bile salts and bilirubins, and stimulates gastric acid and pepsinogen secretion. Though generally regarded as a bile acid protein, it is also capable of binding fatty acids [PMID: 12651103]. The long isoform of FABP6 is up-regulated through nuclear factor-kappaB in colorectal adenocarcinoma [PMID: 17909007].
