Family

Syndecan-2 (IPR031201)

Short name: Syndecan-2

Family relationships

  • Syndecan (IPR001050)
    • Syndecan-2 (IPR031201)

Description

Four members of the syndecan family of transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycans are expressed in mammals, Sdc1-4 [PMID: 1335744, PMID: 21062643]. Although the four syndecans have common functions, they appear to be connected to different signalling pathways, and their expression occurs in a cell and development-specific pattern. Syndecan-2 exerts multiple functions in cells of the osteoblast lineage, where it serves as a co-receptor for fibroblast growth factors and Wnt proteins. Syndecan-2 expression increases during osteoblast differentiation [PMID: 25848534].
