Mesoderm induction early response protein 1 (IPR031169)

Short name: MIER1

Family relationships

None.

Description

MIER1 is a transcriptional regulator identified from a screen for fibroblast growth factor early response genes that are activated during mesoderm induction in Xenopus laevis embryos [PMID: 9325278]. MIER1 has been shown to repress transcription using several distinct mechanisms [PMID: 18721470, PMID: 15117948], including recruitment of histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) [PMID: 12482978]. The protein consists of several isoforms with a common internal region and variable N- and C- termini [PMID: 12242014]. The common region contains an ELM2 domain and a SANT domain, both of which play a role in transcriptional regulation [PMID: 12482978, PMID: 15117948].
