Protein Phosphatase 2A (PP2A) is a major serine/threonine phosphatase in cells [PMID: 11007961]. It consists of a catalytic subunit (C), a structural subunit (A), and a regulatory variable B-type subunit. Regulatory subunits are mutually exclusive and determine subcellular localisation and substrate specificity of PP2A. PP2A subunit A (PR65/PAA-1/PPP2R1A) serves as a scaffolding molecule to coordinate the assembly of the catalytic subunit and a variable regulatory B subunit [PMID: 16580887, PMID: 23336080]. PR65 is a two-layered (alpha-alpha solenoid) HEAT-repeat (Huntingtin, elongation factor 3, a subunit of protein phosphatase 2A, PI3 kinase target of rapamycin 1) containing protein [PMID: 20133745].
