Family

Osteomodulin (IPR030705)

Short name: Osteomodulin

Family relationships

None.

Description

Osteomodulin (OMD), also called osteoadherin, belongs to the family of leucine-rich repeat proteins (SLRPs) of the extracellular matrix, which have crucial roles in regulating skeletal homeostasis and development [PMID: 9642227]. Osteoclasts is a type of bone cell that reabsorbs bone tissue. Bone resorption by osteoclasts stimulates bone formation by osteoblasts. The expression of osteomodulin in osteoblasts is induded by osteoclastic activity, indicating that it is involved in bone homeostasis [PMID: 17714690].
