Short name: Serotransferrin_mammal

Family relationships

  • Transferrin (IPR016357)
    • Serotransferrin, mammalian (IPR030685)

Description

Serotransferrin, also known as siderophilin, is a bilobal protein that transports iron from sites of storage to regions of iron metabolism [PMID: 9609685]. It binds ferric ions in the bloodstream and transports this bound iron to cells where it is released by a process of receptor-mediated endocytosis [PMID: 9760232].
