Fascin-1 (IPR030146)

Short name: FSCN1

Overlapping homologous superfamilies

Family relationships

Fascins are actin cross-linking proteins that function in the organisation of two major forms of actin-based structures: dynamic, cortical cell protrusions and cytoplasmic microfilament bundles [PMID: 11948621].

This entry represents fascin-1 (FSCN1) from mammals and its homologue from Xenopus laevis. FSCN1 plays a role in stress fibre organisation and focal adhesion disassembly [PMID: 24930964]. In humans, FSCN1 serves as a tumour marker that is highly expressed in numerous types of cancer, including lymphomas. It is important for migration and metastasis of tumour cells [PMID: 25105941].
