Description
BAF57 (also known as SMARCE1) is a subunit of the SWI/SNF complex, which is an ATP-dependent chromatin remodelling complex that regulates gene expression through regulating nucleosome remodelling. In response to hormone, BAF57 facilitates the recruitment of SWI/SNF to the nuclear receptors at target promoters/enhancers to regulate transcription [PMID: 20460533]. BAF57 is also required for maintaining the subunit composition of the SWI/SNF complex. It plays an important role in cell cycle progression through the transcriptional regulation of a subset of cell cycle-related genes [PMID: 20460533].
