Uridine-cytidine kinase-like 1 (UCKL1) is a novel uridine kinase/uracil phosphoribosyltransferase that is part of the ribonucleotide salvage pathway. Virus encoded protein EBNA-3 binds to UCKL1, a strategy that the Epstein-Barr virus may use to accumulate UTP in the nucleus, where it is needed for blast transformation and proliferation [PMID: 12199906]. UCKL1 may also play a role in tumour cell survival [PMID: 19653100].
